Battle Proms Evening Burghley House Stamford UK

What a wonderful evening we had. It had rained for most of the week leading up to our evening at the Proms and then after lunch on the Saturday of the 14th July the sky cleared and the sun came out and so off we set of for the walk across to Burghley House, with Glen carrying our folding chairs and I had the back pack with some goodies in it to help the evening along. Thousands of people were there some setting up tables (table clothes, food and wine, not forgetting the cut glass wine glasses) or rugs on the grass for an evening of entertainment. It started off with the horsemen in Napoleonic Uniforms showing off their their skills on horse back, all the time to the accompaniment of music from the orchestra in the background. The singing and the music was superb then people got up and waltzed on any grass area they could find near to where they were sitting. There were also 200 small cannons and one larger restored thirteen pound-er cannon that were fired at appropriate places throughout a number of the orchestral pieces. The finale was the fire works also set off to music. What an effect that was....fantastic. The evening finished about 11pm so we walked back to our flat in Stamford. Of course the rain was back by the early hours of the following morning, so how lucky were we ???? and those who had organised this great evening.
